Infertility

Infertility is a reproductive health condition in which a couple experiences difficulty achieving pregnancy despite regular, unprotected intercourse. It can affect both women and men and may result from various factors involving the reproductive organs, hormones, lifestyle, age, or overall health. In women, common causes include ovulation disorders, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), blocked fallopian tubes, endometriosis, and reduced ovarian reserve. In men, factors such as low sperm count, poor sperm movement, hormonal disturbances, or certain medical conditions may contribute to fertility challenges.

A thorough evaluation is essential to understand the underlying reason for difficulty conceiving. This may involve reviewing medical history, menstrual patterns, lifestyle factors, and previous treatments, along with appropriate blood tests, ultrasound examinations, semen analysis, or other fertility assessments.

Infertility management is tailored according to the individual needs of each couple. Treatment options may include lifestyle modifications, medication to support ovulation, treatment of underlying reproductive conditions, surgical procedures when required, or assisted reproductive techniques such as intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in-vitro fertilisation (IVF).

With timely assessment, appropriate treatment, and personalised medical guidance, many couples can improve their chances of conception. Compassionate counselling and emotional support are also important throughout the fertility journey, helping couples make informed decisions with confidence.
